NJUG AWARDS 2011

The 2011 NJUG Awards were presented in the House of Commons Members Dining Room on Tuesday 22nd November 2011. The event was a huge success and representatives from various utility companies, utility contractors and local authorities were all in attendance. A number of Parliamentarians were also present.
The Awards were designed to recognise, promote and reward instances of best practice within the street works industry which contributed to turning the NJUG Vision for Street Works into a reality. Prizes were awarded to utility companies and contractors who provided case studies demonstrating their delivery of one or more of the objectives of the NJUG Vision.

The Awards centred on each of the six Vision Statements with an award being presented for each one (although case studies supporting more than one statement were encouraged):

•Safety is the number one priority
•Utilities deliver consistent high quality
•Utilities work together and in partnership with local authorities and contractors to minimise disruption
•Utilities keep the public informed on all aspects of works
•Utilities maximise the use of sustainable methods and materials
•Damage to the underground assets is avoided

Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Transport Select Committee, kindly hosted and spoke at the event, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Norman Baker MP, also delivered a speech. This year's event was sponsored by NJUG member, Veolia Water.
