Scottish Utilities Embrace Street Works Vision

NJUG, the National Joint Utilities Group, is marking the fact that Scottish utilities are continuing to embrace the Street Works Vision with an event to promote best practice for street works in Scotland. NJUG is the utility trade association dedicated to the issues of street works, and is holding the event hosted by Angela Constance MSP, SNP Member for Livingston, at the Scottish Parliament on November 5th.  

Speakers will include Stewart Stevenson MSP, Scottish Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, John Gooday, the Scottish Road Works Commissioner; and Richard Wakelen, NJUG Chief Executive Officer. 

The six key points for theVision for Street Works’ are:

·         Safety is the number one priority

·         Damage to the underground assets is avoided

·         Utilities work together and in partnership with local authorities to minimise disruption

·         Utilities deliver consistent high quality

·         Utilities maximise the use of sustainable methods and materials

·         Street works in the UK are regarded as world class 

NJUG’s Vision reinforces the safety of the general public and workers on street works as the priority for utility companies. 

NJUG CEO, Richard Wakelen, said: “It is crucial for the utilities industry to have a strong, public strategy to guide its work in promoting safety, quality and co-ordination of street works throughout the UK. NJUG’s Vision establishes a road map for the future delivery of world class street works.”
